YOGA

Yoga is a physical and mental wellness practice, but it’s not just about a holistic care for our bodies, but also a care for community. Yoga is definitionally about “unity,” and that means showing compassion both on and off the mat to yourself, and to others.

Practice for a Purpose is dedicated to God’s call to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All classes take place at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, and they are free and welcome to all skill levels! Those who are so inclined may give to our designated mission partner, which will receive 100 percent of all donations. More information about our mission partners and track record of donations can be found below.

Refer to the featured events below for upcoming classes, but stay updated with the most up-to-date time changes and cancellations on our operations calendar . Please contact Ann with any questions.

Mission Partners

100 percent of freewill offerings in 2026 will go toward the Divine Intervention Warming Shelter : a ministry of Tippecanoe Presbyterian Church  located on Milwaukee’s south side. The shelter provides a safe haven for 20 guests every evening from December 1 through March 31, offering safety, sustenance, and shelter to individuals experiencing homelessness. The shelter is staffed primarily by volunteers and funded entirely through private donations from churches, organizations, and caring individuals who believe in their mission.

Team

Ann Otte

Ann began practicing yoga about 20 years ago as a means to stretch her body following long training runs. After retiring from the corporate world, she decided to pursue her yoga teacher  certification to deepen her personal practice. She chose the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health because they teach an accessible type of Hatha Yoga that harmonizes body, mind, and spirit with breath. On the last day of training the instructor asked the class to spend time reflecting how they’d use their certification for good in the world, and Practice for a Purpose was born in February 2020, having raised over $30,000 for mission partners. In 2023, she received her 500-hour certification.

JeanEllen Trubshaw

JeanEllen, a long-time member of Crossroads, has been avid about her yoga practice for the last 15 years. Always physically active, JeanEllen finds peace and calm in the way yoga connects the body, mind and spirit and is grateful to share her love of breath and movement with all. Her favorite type of yoga is a slow luxurious vinyasa flow that challenges the body to move and centers the mind on the true Divinity that lives in each of us.

Tracy Schoneman

Tracy is a dedicated health and wellness coach since 2019. Her passion for wellness led her to delve into yoga nearly a decade ago. In the spring of 2023, she began sharing the benefits of chair yoga with seniors at a local center. Her commitment to growth in this field led her to complete her 200-hour yoga teacher training through Yoga Renew, as well as obtaining a Restorative Yoga certification. Through her dedicated practice, she has cultivated a deep understanding of her body’s needs. This journey has allowed her to blend strength, flexibility, and inner peace both on and off the mat. For Tracy, yoga is not merely a physical practice; it’s a transformative journey that continues to inspire and elevate her spirit. For more information check out her website Yoga Well .

Mary Addy

Mary is a young, passionate yoga practitioner. Using yoga as a form of inner-soul searching, restoration, meditation, and exercise, she guides individuals through their own yoga journey. Mary’s gentle instruction allows beginner and advanced students to expand in yoga psychology, movement and flexibility, and improve general well-being. She is a vibrant, adventurous spirit who enjoys global travel, and strives to bring each student closer to the Divine with every class.

Aside from her yoga adventures, she enjoys cooking healthy food and taking care of her cat, Toby. Her hobbies include paddle-boarding, rock climbing, hiking and surfing. She loves connecting with others and sharing stories of her adventures. Mary looks forward to teaching and connecting through Practice for a Purpose, Yoga Ministry! For more information check out her website at Divine Yoga.

Ann Manning

Ann and her family have always loved staying fit and active together – finding great joy in hiking, tennis, pickleball and many forms of yoga. Her work is in the “business of developing people” – coaching leaders and teams to reach their potential.

After reflecting on her life’s purpose and how to intentionally transition in the 3rd quarter of life, she decided to lean into yoga where she finds great peace and renewal. Ann completed the 200-hour Kripalu teacher training. Her R&R yoga classes are focused on renewing presence, strength and flexibility – helping to raise self-awareness of breath, body, mind and spirit.  All levels are welcome.
